SUMMARY

In this project assessment, I have learned many things such as the first thing is set up the blog by using the popular URL that calls BlogSpot or Blogger. I also learn how to manage the time and follow the steps of the task that given to me. In this project, I learn about the causes of the environment and giving me more knowledge about causes of the environment because I do the research to complete the task. Furthermore, I also know the effect of the environment and what factor that effect the environment by during research in the website.

CAUSES  OF  ENVIRONMENT

Environmental pollution is the introduction of contaminants into the environment that makes the environment unhealthy for habitation and on the extreme, can harm the ecosystem. The causes of pollution depend on the type of pollution under view.

Air pollution

This is the release of polluting chemicals and particulates into the atmosphere. These pollutants makes it unhealthy to breathe in such air. Common air pollutants are sulfur dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons (CFC), carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxides produced by industry and motor vehicles. When hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides react to sunlight, smog and photochemical ozone are formed when nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons react to sunlight.

Water pollution

When waste products and potential contaminants are released into river drainage systems and other water bodies making the water unfit or compromising the quality of the water for use by man or habitation of water fauna and flora, we have water pollution.

Soil Contamination

Occurs when chemicals are released by spill or underground leakage. Among The most significant soil contaminants are hydrocarbons, heavy metals, herbicides, pesticides and chlorinated hydrocarbons.

Radioactive contamination

Resulting from 20th century activities in atomic physics, such as nuclear power generation and nuclear weapons research, manufacture and deployment.

Noise pollution

This encompasses roadway noise, aircraft noise, industrial noise as well as high-intensity sonar.

Light pollution

Includes light trespass, over-illumination and astronomical interference.

Visual pollution

Which can refer to the presence of overhead power lines, motorway billboards, scarred landforms, open storage of trash or municipal solid waste.

Thermal pollution

Is a temperature change in natural water bodies caused by human influence, such as use of water as coolant in a power plant.

ONE CAUSE OF THE ENVIRONMENT

CAUSES OF AIR POLUTION

What causes air pollution? Air pollution results mainly from the incomplete combustion of several fuels, such as coal, petrol and wood. The primary sources of pollution from combustion are furnaces in factories, engines in vehicles and burning of trash, in the form of particles or gases? Air Pollution is a harmful substances to the atmosphere resulting in damage to the environment, human health, and quality of life. One of many forms of air pollution occurs inside homes, schools, offices, in cities, across continents and even globally. Air pollution causes damage to the environment. Air pollution cause depletion of the ozone layer, which allows a greater amount of ultraviolet rays to earth, that can be harmful for humans. Some air pollutants return to earth in the form of acid rain , which it can corrode statues and buildings, damage crops, forests, makes lakes, and streams unsuitable for fish and other plant and animal life .Smog is another result from air pollutant which is in the form of fog that is harmful to humans. Global warming can also be a cause by air pollutants, which causes the earth temperatures to increase. This effects the whole earth as one, and leading to a rise in global average temperatures.

Mentioned by the web page of Understanding Acid Rain, ( acid rain is a result when sulphur dioxides and nitrogen oxides are carried by the wind and deposited on the earths surface. As The Environment A Global Challenge explains ( In London, street lights were turned on by noon because smog darkened the midday sky. About 1 million of these people will die. Air pollution has been increasing since the Industrial Revolution . At this point , intense ultraviolet radiation (UV-rays) breaks the CFC molecules apart, releasing the chlorine atoms they contain. Although the effects of future climate change are unknown, some predict that exaggerated weather conditions may translate into better agricultural yields. Global warming is another effect from air pollution . Global warming is also known as the greenhouse effect . ) Other gases such as methane, nitrous oxide, and chlorofluorocarbons , admit the sun's light but tend to reflect back downward the heat that is radiated from the ground below, trapping heat in the earth's atmosphere . For the very young, the very old, and people who suffer from asthma or heart disease, the effects of smog are even worse . Many of the worlds animal life may become extinct, because of shifting of their habitat.
EFFECT  OF ENVIRONMENT

The 'effects on the environment' research paper considers fossil fuels, where they come from and what effects burning them have on the environment and humans. Also, the paper explains what the greenhouse effect is and how carbon dioxide and other gases add to it. Global warming is one of today's main issues and it is caused by the greenhouse effect, which carbon dioxide is a chief contributor to. Burning materials that contain carbon is one of the ways carbon dioxide is formed. In today's technology-based world, people rely on electricity and fuel for everyday use. Most electricity comes from fossil fuels therefore; the rapid depletion and the amount of carbon dioxide going into the atmosphere must be controlled. The gases that add to the greenhouse effect trap heat from the sun and prevent it from leaving the earth's atmosphere.

ONE EFFECT OF THE ENVIRONMENT

DEFORESTATION

Deforestations is the one effect of the environment. It occurs when we have some individual that do not responsible to our environment. This individual is think about the money than think about to save our environment. The result is consider that 2 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide will be pumped into the atmosphere each year as a result of deforestation of tropical rainforests. And that each year 50 million acres of rainforest is removed from earth. Everytime there’s a tree cut down believe it or not we are destroying habitat. In Latin America, deforestation occur went human planting and grow soja and maize to provide food for the meat producers and in Asia, particularly Indonesia, to produce palm oil. Deforestation breaks the natural chain in nature which causes world wide global problems. It's just common sense, yet governments refuse to take necessary actions.

NEW STRAITS TIME
NURJEHAN MOHAMED

DO your bit for the environment by switching off non-essential lights for an hour "Earth Hour" this March 28 from 8.30pm to 9.30pm.

This annual international event is created by World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF) and is held on the last Saturday of this month. Households and businesses are asked to turn off their non-essential lights and electrical appliances for an hour to raise awareness of the need to take action on climate change.

WWF hopes to reach its target of one billion people switching off their lights as part of a vote against global warming, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen this year.

NURJEHAN MOHAMED finds out what the environment and Earth Hour mean to three young Malaysians.

COMMENT FOR NEWSPAPER ARTICLE

This newspaper article is about one of the action to save our environment by our society that call World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF). The society has do the campaign that call "Earth Hour".This society hopes to reach its target of one billion people switching off their lights as part of a vote against global warming. This article also show the comment of the student in Malaysia about this campaign. As the conclusion to save and protect our environment, we must do many actions such as recycle the plastic, paper, bottle and glass. We also can save our environment by doing the individual action, society action and country action to keep save and protect our environment.

2005 MALAYSIAN HAZE

The 2005 Malaysian haze was a week-long choking smog-like haze over Malaysia that almost brought the central part of Peninsular Malaysia to a standstill, prompted crisis talks with Indonesia and caused widespread inconvenience. The haze was at its worst on August 11, 2005. This was a comeback of the haze crisis which last hit Malaysia in September 1997.

INITIAL ONSET

Haze is caused by "hotspots" (zones with high temperature levels as seen via satellite imagery) in Malaysia and Indonesia. Lingering smoke from forest fires on the Indonesian island of Sumatra are identified as the primary cause. Farmers regularly burn scrub and forest to clear land during the dry season for agricultural purposes, but this is the worst haze that has hit Malaysia since the 1997 haze.

On August 10, 2005, air quality in the Malaysian capital city of Kuala Lumpur was so poor, health officials advised citizens to stay at home with doors closed. Some schools were closed to keep children from being exposed to the haze........

COMMENT FOR WEBSITE ARTICLE

This article is about the Malaysia haze that happens in year 2005. What I can understand about this website is it happens on August 10, 2005, air quality in the Malaysian capital city of Kuala Lumpur was so poor, health officials advised citizens to stay at home with doors closed. Some schools were closed to keep children from being exposed to the haze. The air pollutant index readings (API) were released for the first time by the Malaysian government since 1997. Up to date readings are now available for the 51 sites monitored automatically and continuously via the Department of Environment, Malaysia. The haze is decrease on September 11.
INDIVIDUAL  ACTION

The environment is simply a home in which we reside and try to make a better living by consuming its resources.Through greed and recklessness, we have caused the environment to be in jeopardy. Earth Hour is simply a way to reduce the use of electricity and to inform people of their role in combating climate change. I believe that participation enables individuals to cultivate a greater appreciation for the environment. Young people can improve their knowledge and understanding of the current status of the environment by enrolling for camps such as those run by Yayasan Anak Warisan Alam and be part of projects involving the environment. A better grasp of the environment will allow youth to contribute towards the environment with little detrimental effects and hopefully solve issues that involve reducing our carbon footprints.

I find the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle strategy (in that order) efficient. Don't use polystyrene! Bring a container when buying food. Try not to buy individually-packaged foodstuff because that accumulates to a lot of plastic waste in the end.Youngsters can do lots of things to make a difference such as reducing the use of plastic bags and using both sides of the paper for printing.
